Cycling up to 10hrs a day, 1,600KM’s from Auckland to Queenstown through New Zealand’s harsh peaks and mountainous Roads. 11 days of back to back cycling with no rest days in between and carrying all their own equipment, sleepless nights and intense muscle pain will be the order of the day.

As if this challenge wasn’t dangerous and outlandish enough, these 5 guys don’t even own bicycles… The vast majority of their cycling experience can be traced back to short stints riding BMX’s in the early 2000’s, most not having touched a bike since.

But, the gauntlet has been set, and the thought of helping all those affected by Guillain Barre Syndrome will get them through to the finish line.

Meet The Team:

Rich Barnett AKA THE BULL The Bull of the squad, wider than he is tall. The fact that one of his arms

has more muscle than both of his legs isn’t going to do him any favours

during this tortuous trip.

Taylor King AKA The Princess The hardest exercise this guy ever undertakes is his intense morning skin care routine. Least favourite to finish, he’s going to struggle on this trip without his hair dryer and whitening toothpaste.

Kai Done AKA Otton Named ironically after the surfer Kai Otton. This guy’s enthusiasm far

outweighs his ability to surf, or cycle for that matter. He’s going to need

all the enthusiasm he can muster if he’s going to finish this monster.

Tom Fernon AKA Bluey AKA The Passion The true blue Aussie of the group, this guy could talk Donald Trump out of building the wall, he’s a motivator and we will need him. He’s also the

only guy who has an ounce of cycling experience.

Nick McElhone AKA Eye Drops Don’t let his sleepy looking eyes and chilled out persona fool you, this guy’s a stallion, in more ways than one. He’s also most likely to fill his water bottle with beer. I wouldn’t bet on this 3 legged horse.

What is Guillain Barre Syndrome (GBS)?

Guillain Barre Syndrome pronounced (Gheelan Barré) is an autoimmune

condition in which a person’s peripheral nerves are attacked by the body’s own immune system causing weakness and paralysis of the limbs. It’s an own goal you could do without and It can happen to anyone at any age, there is no cure.

What the GBS Foundation does and where your money will go:

The GBS Foundation of Australia are here to listen to individual journey’s, provide information and up to date research. Supporting those suffering from GBS and their families financially, physically and emotionally, so that no one feels alone, unheard or unsupported.

Everyone in the foundation works voluntarily so that every penny donated goes directly to the cause.

We are so grateful that you are getting involved:

We ask you to donate generously, to help raise our target for the campaign to help several families suffering from GBS. The more you donate the bigger the impact made of others’ lives.

Thank you very much 🙂
